Ethiopia Highlights Food Security Progress Amidst Global Challenges at UN Event

New York, USA July 22, 2025 At a pivotal UN Headquarters event on "Addressing High Food Price Inflation for Food Security and Nutrition," H.E. Dr. Fitsum Assefa, Minister of Planning and Development of Ethiopia, shared insights on national efforts to combat rising food prices and food insecurity. Minister Fitsum highlighted Ethiopia's comprehensive Food Systems Transformation Roadmap and Climate Smart Development Agenda, featuring initiatives like the Green Legacy Initiative, National Resilient Wheat Production, and Bounty of the Basket programs. These efforts aim to boost productivity, improve food accessibility, and strengthen community resilience, contributing to a reduction in inflation. The Minister underscored the urgent global need to prioritize food affordability and called for a holistic approach and stronger collaboration across the food value chain to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2. Dr. Fitsum also invited participation in the upcoming second UN Food Systems Summit in Addis Ababa which will be held from July 27 29, 2025.
